Welcome back to Elmhurst CRC’s Daily Dose of the Word of God. It’s Monday, September 7 - Labor Day - hope today is a great holiday for you . This is Gregg DeMey, Lead Pastor at Elmhurst CRC, here to introduce you - or reintroduce you - to the Daily Dose. We’re just about to begin on a 9-month Walk-Thru-the Bible to help us better see the Big Picture of how God is at work for good in the world.
The Main Character in this story is Jesus at every step along the way - even in the OT stories, and the Gospel of Matthew is going to help shine a light on Jesus and help to guide us through the Salvation Stories of the OT.
The Daily Doses of Scripture will show up Monday through Friday with a different Staff member helping us to receive God’s Word each day. Monday’s Dose will look back to the previous Sunday and help us apply that most recent Scripture to our daily lives.
Then, the Tuesday through Friday doses will introduce the Bible reading for the coming Sunday’s worship service. If you stick with us over the next 9 months, we’ll journey from the beginning of the Bible to the end - and by God’s Grace - we’ll grow in our knowledge and understanding of God’s goodness, and great heart of love for us.
Today, I’m going to share the first four verses from the Book of Genesis. What God reveals about how everything began:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good,
Beautiful, efficient, powerful, true Words from God. God speaks and things happen!
Life happens! Let’s pray. God, there are SO MANY new things beginning around us right now. School activities, new ministries beginning at our church, new jobs and challenges and the season of Fall coming soon. We recognize that all this newness doesn’t mean anything at all without your Spirit. So we pray this morning, Lord, that you would pour out your Holy Spirit in fresh ways in our midst - send life, give energy, give resurrection power so that all this newness will bear the good fruit that ONLY YOU can give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
