Good morning and welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Thursday, February 5. This is Gregg DeMay and we are starting the day today with a spotlight on Jesus, the apostle, John, guiding the way through his gospel. The reading today is John 4, verses 53 and 54.

Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.  This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.

The apostle John notes that this is the second of the signs that points to Jesus' identity as Savior and rescuer (as Messiah). Do you remember the first? It was water into wine - a sign of abundance and that the kingdom is abundant when Jesus is around.  The second sign is to save this young man's life (to make the sick well). This sign signals that what Jesus says, it happens. "Your son will live!" The Lord Jesus declares, and it is so. Could it really be that simple? Jesus' voice has the power to remove the effects of sin, sickness and brokenness. One word from Jesus and what happens here is healing out of sickness into health. One word from Jesus and there is restoration out of a broken world. One word from Jesus and there is mercy instead of hopelessness. When people witness that Jesus is at work in this way, the Bible says that they believed, saw it and put their confidence in Jesus.

This Sunday in worship there's going to be an extended time of healing prayer where we're invited to come forward into Jesus presence and ask the Lord to speak over us with his powerful voice. For some of us, it might be an urgent request. For others of us, it might be, "Jesus, please redeem this area of brokenness, whether it's in me, around me or out there in the wider world." I'm so eager for many of us this Sunday to find healing, restoration and mercy.

Gregg DeMey   2:43

Let's pray. Lord Jesus, your name is power and your voice is good and strong. Please, in our lives and in the lives of our church, community, family and friends,  speak your words of healing, restoration and mercy. For your sake, we pray, amen.
