Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, January 26th. This is Jeff Klein reminding you that your faith is not just upward on Sunday, but it's also in and out throughout the rest of the week.

My friend Hugh Halter wrote a book called "The Tangible Kingdom." It's all about making the kingdom of God tangible to the world. Tangible means that you can touch it, see it, understand it through experience, hear it and live in the middle of it. It means that the kingdom of God is not just a static concept, but is a real place that you can live in and experience. But how can this happen? How can regular people touch the kingdom of heaven? There's only one way if ordinary followers of Jesus actually follow Jesus' example and live their lives in a way that will make it come alive, make it into flesh  here on Earth. That's our job, that is our call, that is our mission. Hugh Halter says it this way in the book, "Church must not be the goal of the gospel anymore. Church should not be the focus of our efforts or the banner we hold up to explain what we're about. Church should be what ends up happening as a natural response to people wanting to follow us, be with us, and be like us as we are following the way of Jesus." Is there a way that you can act, live or walk this week that will make God's Kingdom visible and touchable for someone else? When people watch us live, does that rouse their curiosity about Jesus and His kingdom? Who needs you to put Jesus on display this week? First Peter Two, reminds us, "For you are a chosen people. You are a royal priesthood, a holy nation. God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God. For he called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you had no identity as a people, now you are God's people. Once you had not received mercy, but now you have received God's mercy." Let's get out and make the kingdom tangible.

Let's pray. Jesus, we desire for others to know you like we know you. We desire for others to experience your kingdom like we've experienced your kingdom. Lord, give us a vision of how to do that, how to make it tangible for others and show us one person this week who needs us to step into their life and show them what we have learned about the kingdom. In your name Jesus, we pray, amen.
