Welcome to Elmhurst CRC’s Daily Dose of the Word of God. It’s Tuesday, December 2.  This is Billy Heschl reading for Rachel Klooster.  As we walk through the Bible this year, we will better see the Big Picture of how God has been and is still at work for good in the world. Ezekiel 37:1-3 from The Message

Rachel Klooster  0:39

God grabbed me. God’s Spirit took me up and set me down in the middle of an open plain strewn with bones. He led me around and among them—a lot of bones! There were bones all over the plain—dry bones, bleached by the sun.  He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Master God, only you know that.”

Rachel Klooster  1:07

Ezekiel was a prophet to the Israelites when they were living under the reign of a foreign country. We find him in Ezekiel 37 attempting to provide hope to Israel by letting them know what God told him regarding Israel’s future restoration. Israel was considered dry bones - away from home and away from the routines of the temple that kept them close to God. They were bleached by the sun - implying they had been this way for quite some time. God says to Ezekiel - can these bones live? We can watch Ezekiel shrug his shoulders as he says back to God, “Only YOU know that.” What about you - are your bones dry? are you facing a mountain? Are you struggling with something? Is someone in your family struggling? Are you waiting for a breakthrough for you or someone you know? Are you hoping for a resolution to an issue? Are you waiting for healing? Is God asking us today, "can this situation find a good ending?" Can we cry out to God and sa, "GOD - ONLY YOU KNOW!! " Spoiler alert - keep listening because we will hear the answer for Israel in the next couple of days, which might be the hint about the answer for us. But for now, maybe just for today, can we quit striving and hoping and asking and just rest in giving our struggles to God.

Rachel Klooster 2:49

Let's pray. Dear God, only you know how and when healing or a breakthrough will happen. For today, let us give our worries to you. Give us strength. Give us peace to remember that YOU have the power and wisdom to provide answers. In Jesus Name, Amen.
