Kelly Day 0:07
Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's November 25th and today's reading is from Daniel 3, 1 through 7. As we journey through the Bible this year, we can better see the big picture of how God has been and is still at work for good in the world.
Kelly Day 0:24
King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. He then summoned the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the other provincial officials to come to the dedication of the image he had set up. So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the other provincial officials assembled for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it. Then the herald loudly proclaimed, “Nations and peoples of every language, this is what you are commanded to do: As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.” Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music, all the nations and peoples of every language fell down and worshiped the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Kelly Day 1:41
Nebuchadnezzar was a very powerful Babylonian king. Daniel (in the chapter before) referred to him as a king of kings. This king seemed kind of like a Go big or stay home kind of guy. He had this huge golden statue built and a huge dedication that all the big wigs attended. He had a huge request that everyone, no matter what nation, had to bow down to this image. And lastly, a huge consequence: die, if you don't. We read later in Daniel that King Nebuchadnezzar heart had grown arrogant and hardened with pride. He was stripped of his power until he humbled himself and acknowledged that the most high God is sovereign.
Kelly Day 2:39
Let's pray. Dear Lord our God, the true King of Kings, you are all powerful and just. I confess that we too can become prideful and arrogant as individuals. I pray that we may humbly turn to you and keep you in your rightful place as Lord of all. May we seek your face each and every day and worship you and you alone. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, amen.
