Good morning and welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Thursday, September 25 and this is Gregg DeMey. We are walking through the Bible, reading from Exodus 4: 10 through 17 today. Let's notice how God is at work for good in the world.

Gregg DeMey 0:25

Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”  The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”  But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”  Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.”

Gregg DeMey 1:35

Moses has been met by God at the burning bush, removed his shoes standing on holy ground and God has revealed his name - Yahweh. I am that I am, the living onethe God whose mere word creates and sets things into motion,  including, "go to Pharaoh, I'm going to use your leadership to free my people." Moses's response: "God, I'm not such a good talker. Could you send someone else?" Classic imposter syndrome - Moses doesn't feel like he can do it. Perhaps God has asked you (or me) to do some things in his name and maybe like Moses, we feel like imposters. We can't possibly do this thing that we're asked to do in our own strength. That's not all bad when we are weak - perhaps God can prove himself to be strong.

Let's pray. Oh God, help us live today in your strength as we hear your voice. Help us rely on your power and presence to obediently do whatever you're asking for us to do. For Jesus sake, Amen.
