Rachel Klooster  0:07

Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Tuesday, September 9 and It's a new season with new voices...although, not really because this is still Billy Heschl reading for Rachel Klooster! As we walk through the Bible this year, we will better see the big picture of how God has been and is still at work for good in the world. Today's reading is from Genesis 21, 1 through 3.

Rachel Klooster 0:32

The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. This happened at just the time God had said it would. And Abraham named their son Isaac.

Rachel Klooster 0:47

Within this Old Testament narrative, we are given a lesson: God keeps his promises. What are some of his promises to us?Here are a few: I will never leave you be still and know that I am God. Fear not, for the Lord is with you. Draw near to me, and I will draw near to you. I have overcome the world.

Rachel Klooster  1:10

Does this give us specific answers on specific questions we have right now? Maybe not, but it does help us rest in knowing that our decisions are all under God's sovereignty and that he works all things together for my good. Whether you live on a school schedule or not, the cooler weather which brings a refreshing wind, can be a reminder that it’s a good time to re-center our priorities, remind ourselves of God’s presence in our lives, have energy to get back into the Word of God, or just reset our thought patterns.

Rachel Klooster  1:42

Lord, we thank you so much that you keep your word to us and do exactly what you promise. And thank you that you fulfill your promises to us at just the right time. Help us to use the change of season as a reminder to reset our priorities and draw near to you. In Jesus name, Amen.
