Gregg DeMey 0:07
Good morning and welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Thursday, September 4. This is Gregg DeMey, Lead Pastor at the church and we are walking through the Bible starting at the very beginning. Today, we're going to be reading from Genesis chapter 1, verses 26 and following.
Gregg DeMey 0:26
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Gregg DeMey 1:45
On the sixth and final day of creation, God really saved his best for last. After making stars and planets and skies and seas and animals and birds and fish, God made human beings uniquely in his own image. The Bible makes no apologies for recognizing that people are special. We're special because God made us that way - to uniquely bear his likeness. Remembering that we are made in the image of God should be enough to raise the head of the biggest failure, the poorest beggar and the lowest sinner (that's you and me).
Gregg DeMey 2:27
Let's pray. Oh God, in your mighty Goodness, you made us to bear your image, to care for this earth, to learn and grow and help the whole created order to thrive with whatever gifts and powers you've given us. God, help us serve you today in gratitude and serve this world that you love so much. In Jesus name we pray. amen.
