Welcome to ECRC’s Daily Dose of the Word of God. I’m Billy Heschl, reading for Rachel Klooster.  It’s Tuesday, June 24, but Sunday’s Coming. It’s the SEASON of Easter, and we have the blessed opportunity to respond to the reality of Jesus’ resurrection life. Today’s Bible reading is from James 1:22-25

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Oh sure, I read the Bible. I have the verse of the day app on my phone and I listen to the daily dose devos. When the scripture is up on the screen during church, I read along and tie it into what the Pastor is saying. Great! Check, check check. But, am I doing more than listening? Am I taking what I read and hear to heart? According to James we are told to not just listen to God’s word, but do what it says. How often am I doing that? Actually doing what the Bible says. Is it impacting my life in any way? Am I making any changes to my actions based on what I’ve read? This is my reminder for today, to have the yes times be more frequent than the no times.

Let's pray. Dear God, thank you for this reminder that my actions need to follow the words I read in Scripture. Thank you for always forgiving me for the times when I don't act the way that I should. Please give me the motivation to read the Bible and then to do what it says. In Jesus name, amen.
