Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. I'm Kara Hackard. It's Tuesday, June 17, and Sunday's coming. Today's Bible reading is from John 1, verses 9 through 13.

Kara Hackert  0:20

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Kara Hackert 0:56

Jesus is the light and life of the world. He is the true light that came to shine light in the darkness. He has come to share that light with everyone. And what are the responses to his coming? Those who did not recognize him. Those who did not receive him and those who did receive him and believed. I'd like to read verse 12 again.

Kara Hackert  1:23

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Kara Hackert  1:33

By sending Jesus, God made it possible for us to be part of his family. He chose to make us one of his beloved children. We can receive and believe. What will your response be?

Kara Hackert  1:48

Let's pray together. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your son to be the one true light of the world. We believe in his name. Thank you for making us your children. Help us to walk in the light of his love and to share that light and Love with others. To you, be all the glory. Amen.
