Daily Dose of the Word of God -Beyond Sunday Ep. 93
Jeff Klein, Pastor of Outreach
Jeff Klein 0:07
Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Monday, June 16. This is Jeff Klein, reminding you to take your faith Beyond Sunday. I used to play golf a lot with my friend Mike. He might love golf even more than I do, but the truth is, Mike's passion for the game doesn't really translate into a good game. Yep, he's pretty bad. The reason is that Mike has a fatal flaw in his swing. The problem is the path that he swings his club - he brings his hands too far from his body and ends up hitting across the ball, creating a side spin that always pushes the ball to the right. Now, he tries to change this, but years of bad habits are stored in Mike's muscles. His challenge is to create new muscle memory, and he's working hard at it by taking lessons with a pro. His hope is that with enough practice, his muscles won't remember the old swing.
Jeff Klein 1:09
In the Bible, we followers of Jesus are called ambassadors, witnesses, light and salt of the earth. But like Mike, we have years and years of muscle memory keeping us from swinging in a way that creates missional movements. Instead, a lot of our muscle memory (when it comes to following Jesus) is sitting in chairs, studying and doing ministry activity around the church. We all need to take some new lessons, learn some new muscle memory. We need to find some new ways to move and to swing the club so to speak. How are your missional muscles? Do you find your swing producing fruit for the Kingdom? Do they need some re-training?
Jeff Klein 2:00
Let's pray. Lord Jesus, we know that we need you to give us new passion for mission. Lord, we know that we need help from you to retrain ourselves in what it looks like to follow you fully. Help us, Jesus. In your name we pray, Amen.
