Jeff Klein, Pastor of Outreach
Jeff Klein 0:07
Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Monday, June 2. This is Jeff Klein, reminding you to take your faith into your week, Beyond Sunday.

The word evangelism comes from a Greek word which means good news. Author Francis Chan helps us understand what counts as good news by saying this: "God's definition of what matters is pretty straightforward. He measures our lives by how well we love." Chan is right - our mandate from Jesus in Matthew 22 is clear: "love God and love people."

Could it be that simple? Have we separated the great commandment from the great commission? And if we have, how can each one of us move differently from here on out? Here's Jesus answer from Matthew chapter 10 in the message: "This is a large work I've called you into, but don't be overwhelmed by it. It's best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won't lose out on a thing." Clearly, little things are big to Jesus. What little big things can you do today?

Let's pray. Jesus help us to see the opportunities we have around us. To do a little thing for someone else, to love them with your heart, with your hands and with your feet so that they can become open to the message that we have. In your name, Jesus, we pray, amen.
