Welcome to ECRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. I'm Kara Hackert and it's Tuesday, May 27th. It's the season of Easter and we have the opportunity to respond to the reality of Jesus' resurrection life. Today's Bible reading is from Mark 10, verses 32 through 34. Jesus predicts his death a third time.

Kara Hackert 0:33

They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”

In children's worship, we talk a lot about God's salvation plan. He had a plan and a purpose. Nothing that happens is a surprise or unexpected with God -what an amazing comfort. I also find it comforting that Jesus is telling the disciples this for the third time. I don't know for sure, but I like to think that even though it's the third time, he's still speaking with patience and understanding. He's explaining to them what's about to happen, to prepare them and to help them understand his true purpose and plan. That he has not come to overthrow the Romans, but to save his people through his sacrificial death and resurrection. Jesus' suffering and death were part of God's salvation plan. His plan to save his people and to save us.

There have been times in my life where I have not understood the plan that God has for me. I'm thankful for his patience with me and I know that the more time I spend in his word and prayer with him, the more I'll understand and be prepared. I know that whatever is happening, he has control of my future.

Kara Hackert 2:19

Let's pray together. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you have a plan, you know the future and you are in control. When life gets hard and we don't understand and we feel overwhelmed, help us to remember that you hold all things in your hands. Guide us and help us to follow your way. Thank you that you love us so much that you want us with you forever. Thank you for making a way for that to happen. To you be all the glory, amen.
