Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. I'm Kara Hackert. It's Tuesday, May 6, but Sunday's coming. It's the season of Easter and we have the blessed opportunity to respond to the reality of Jesus resurrection life. Today's Bible reading is from 1 Timothy 2, verses 1 through 4 (NIV).

instructions on worship. I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

I would like to read this for you now from The Message translation. I appreciate the wording and understanding in the translation of this passage.
Kara Hackert 1:06
The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live. He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we’ve learned: that there’s one God and only one, and one Priest-Mediator between God and us—Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin, to set them all free. Eventually the news is going to get out. This and this only has been my appointed work: getting this news to those who have never heard of God, and explaining how it works by simple faith and plain truth.
Kara Hackert 2:10
And here it says, "the first thing I want you to do is pray." So let's pray. I will start, give some quiet time for you to pray and repeat.
Kara Hackert 2:22
Let's pray together, Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for the opportunity to come before you and to talk with you. You want to hear from us. We share with you now our words of gratitude.
Kara Hackert 2:52
This passage says to pray for everyone we know, you have given us the beautiful gift of people. You have given us each other for a reason and a purpose. Please listen to what's on our hearts for our family and friends.
Kara Hackert 3:06
The next part of this passage tells us to pray for those in authority so that we may live peaceful lives. We come before you now and pray for our government and our leaders. We ask for your guidance, wisdom and discernment.
Kara Hackert 3:55
The closing of our reading reminds us that you want everyone saved and everyone to know your truth. We pray for our neighbors and ask that you open our eyes to see those around us.
Kara Hackert 4:20
Please fill us with your joy and love, father. Let it spill out to those around us. Help us to share you with everyone we come in contact with. Thank you for all the many blessings in our lives. To you be all the glory, amen.
