Daily Dose of the Word of God - Beyond Sunday Ep. 83
Jeff Klein, Pastor of Outreach
Jeff Klein 0:07
Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, April 7. This is Jeff Klein with your weekly reminder to take your faith and move it Beyond Sunday. As a staff, we're reading a book by John Mark Comer called, "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry." That title was inspired by a comment made by Dallas Willard to John Ortberg. Ortberg asked Willard what the key to the spiritual life was, and after pausing, Willard turned and said, "the ruthless elimination of hurry from your life." Now, why would Willard say this? Well, for one, when you're hurrying, you don't have time to abide with Jesus. And two, when you're hurrying, you don't have really time for people around you because you're running by them.

Jesus was probably the busiest guy on planet earth when he was here - crowds of people following him around, and yet he demonstrated an unhurried life. He often went alone by himself to be with his father. When he was traveling with the crowds of people, he had time to stop, notice, look at and talk with people along the way. The Blind Man was along the side of the road - Jesus saw him, noticed him, and turned aside to talk with him. Zacchaeus was in a tree. There were crowds of people around Jesus and Jesus stopped just below the tree and went to Zacchaeus' house. The woman with the bleed was bleeding for years and couldn't get cured. In the midst of a crowd, she grabbed Jesus cloak, and he noticed and stopped and talked with her about the healing she had experienced.

When I was in Kenya. What became real evident to me was that the Kenyan people were unhurried. In fact, it even started to rub off on me after several weeks of being there. They just moved in a patient, unhurried way. It seemed like that was a better way than me (as the running around American). So, the question this morning is: how could you die to hurry this week? How would being less hurried help you in your spiritual life, in your growth, in your walk with Jesus?
