Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, March 24th. This is Jeff Klein reminding you to take your faith Beyond Sunday and into the week. A group of scientists have been studying the human body in its idling state translation - just sitting at a desk, in front of the TV, behind the wheel of a car - what is the effect when a human being barely moves at all? Scientists ran tests by hooking electrodes to people's bodies while they sat. What did they find? Muscles go dormant and the brain actually flat lines. This increases the risk of heart disease exponentially, with the number of hours spent sitting. The came to the conclusion that sitting kills.

Jeff Klein  0:51

Are you dying? How much sitting do you do? One of the most celebrated things about the American church is how many people are sitting in the seats on a Sunday morning. In Mark 3, we read that Jesus called his 12 disciples and then it tells us what he called them to do - that they might be with him, that they might he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. Following Jesus means getting out of your seat. It implies walking after someone doing what they do (spiritually speaking). Do you ever wonder how all that sitting has affected us? Does sitting kill our spirits, too? What about you? Is your spiritual life flat-lined? What will you do to get out of your chair and start following?

Jeff Klein  1:37

Let's pray. Jesus, help us to understand how you want us to follow you. Help us to be willing to get up and start walking. In your name we pray, amen.
