Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Monday, February 17. This is Jeff Klein with your weekly reminder to take your faith into the week, Beyond Sunday.

I read the other day about something farmers do during a blizzard - living out in the middle of nowhere increases the danger of a blizzard significantly. The open spaces allow the snow to whip up and blown in ways that it does not in the city. Winds can come fiercely and quickly. Farmers often have to head out in blizzards to tend the animals, but aren't able to find their way back home. Some farmers have even died just feet from their home, unable to see through the gusts to get back inside. To prevent this tragedy, farmers will tie a rope to the house when they head out. They keep hold of it so it guides them back home.

Our lives can feel full to the point of overflowing. Work and family demands leads us to be tense, worried, frantic, fatigued and starved for time. You might call it a life Blizzard, but where's the rope? Psalm 33 says it like this: "Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him and those who hope in his steadfast love. Our soul waits for the Lord, he is our help and our shield." This is our rope in the blizzard of life we can wait on and turn to: the love of God and the fact that he will shield us. We get to model this faith and certainty for our family, for our kids, our neighbors, our coworkers, anyone else God places in our paths. As we encounter the blizzards of life, we can put our faith on display by leaning on God as our shield. When people ask, we can let them know where we find our hope and peace. What Blizzard are you facing right now? How will you find that peaceful place knowing God is your shield? And then, how will you point others to your rope in the blizzard?

Let's pray. Lord God, you know that we are frantic, full of anxiety and worry. We have lots of stuff that throws us off kilter. Lord, help us this week to trust in you as our shield, to trust in your steadfast love for us. And then, Lord, as people ask and wonder about our peace and tranquility in the midst of the blizzard, help us to point them toward the rope that you provided. In your name we pray, amen.
