Cheryl Bachelder used to be the CEO of Popeyes chicken as a leader. She was known for creating a culture that emphasized serving others within the company, as well as serving customers. In her book on this subject, Bachelderposes two questions: how well do you know the people who work with you? And do you know the three or four events of their lives that have shaped who they are today?

In our attempts to reach out to our friends and neighbors in order to help them find Jesus - the Jesus that we know - have we ever considered this approach? How well do we know those who are trying to witness to? Have we bothered to get to know the three or four events that have shaped them, that have made them who they are before pounding them with our presentation about Jesus? What if we found out about the significant events in their lives that have shaped them and their beliefs? Wouldn't our work as God's messengers be far more effective?

So who do you work with? Who is in front of you today, who you can actually find out about? Who can you be curious about? Who can you get to know - their story, the big events in their lives that have made them who they are? That would be a great way to reach out on this Monday.

Let's pray. Lord Jesus, help us to be curious about the people around us. Help us to engage them in ways that make them feel loved and make them feel like we care about them - not just the message that we have for them or the place that we want them to go. In your name we pray, amen.
