Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, January 13 and this is Jeff Klien with your weekly reminder to take your faith Beyond Sunday into the week.

I've been going around asking people the question: "do you think the world is the way it's supposed to be?" Not one person says yes. So I might conclude that we all agree on one thing: the world is not quite right and needs some work. Well, we probably don't agree on what needs to be done to make it right again and how we'll do that. In Ezekiel 22, we find out that Ezekiel's world is not really the way it's supposed to be. Ezekiel goes through a whole list of things that are wrong with the world and especially wrong with God's people, Israel. Parents treated with contempt, orphans and widows, wronged and oppressed, inappropriate sexual relationships, idol worship, leaders who fail to distinguish between what is holy and what is unholy, false prophets and the list goes on and on.

Do you know what God tells Ezekiel he's looking for? Listen to verse 30 of chapter 22: "I look for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn't have to destroy the land. But I found no one." Someone who will stand in the righteousness gap before God, pray, work and engage in making the world a better place. God continues to search for someone and sometimes finds no one. Our world shares many of these same behaviors and problems. How will we get it to be better? How will people find righteousness? If the world has any chance, it will only happen if the people of Jesus step up and stand in the gap. God continues to search for someone to stand in the gap. Will you be the one?

Let's pray. Jesus, help us not to just be satisfied being in our holy huddle here at church. Help us to be willing to stand in the gap and to rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. In your name Jesus we pray, amen.
