Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Tuesday, January 7, 2025 and this is Billy Heschl - still in the New Year - reading for Rachel Klooster. We are getting into the Word of God and this week we are talking about the Old Testament narrative. Today's scripture reading is from Exodus 3, 1 through 5.
Rachel Klooster 0:33
One day Moses was tending the flock of his father in law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God. There an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn't burn up. "This is amazing!" Moses said to himself. "Why isn't that bush burning up? I must go see it!" When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called him from the middle of the bush. "Moses! Moses!""Here I am!" Moses replied. "Do not come any closer." The Lord warned. "Take off your sandald for you are standing on holy ground."

As Pastor Gregg mentioned in his sermon on Sunday, from the beginning, God has been working out his plan to save us from a world tainted with sin. In today’s narrative, God is approaching Moses to talk with him about being a leader of the Israelites to save them from their captivity in Egypt. God is always serious, but he must have known this time around that Moses really needed something powerful to get his attention. There is an angel and flames and then God himself! Thankfully Moses was curious enough to take a closer look.

Tune in tomorrow to hear the rest of the story and what God said to Moses. But for now, let’s ponder what God is doing today to get our attention. And let us be curious enough to take a closer look and to listen.

Let’s pray. Thank you God, for pursuing us. Help us to be open to what you are trying to say today. Please give us the curiosity to take a closer look at you and at what you are saying. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that speaks to us. In Jesus name, amen.
