Welcome to the Daily Dose of the Word of God. And welcome to 2025, people! It's Wednesday, January 1, 2025. My name is Kyle Olsen, and I serve here as the Technical Director at Elmhurst CRC. I'll be reading from Genesis, chapter 1, verses 1 through 3 (The Voice).

In the beginning, God created everything: the heavens above and the earth below. Here’s what happened: At first the earth lacked shape and was totally empty, and a dark fog draped over the deep while God’s spirit-wind hovered over the surface of the empty waters. Then there was the voice of God. God: Let there be light. And light flashed into being.

Let's pray. Lord, thank you for your word. Thank you for creation, thank you for the Big Bang and thank you for your voice that is able to summon everything. Lord, help us to hear that voice calling to us, summoning us, letting us know you're near in this new year. God, we pray that you show us that you are all around in this world - among us, next to us, within us - and that your spirit shines through the darkness. Your spirit is always working and never ending. In your name, Amen.
