Kyle Olson, Technical Director
Kyle Olson 0:05
Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Wednesday, December 11. It's Advent and we're looking ahead at the coming birth of Christ and asking, "What can I give him?" This is Kyle Olson, and I serve here as the Technical Director. I'll be reading from The Voice translation of Psalm 27 verses 1, 4 through 8 and 13- 14.

The Eternal is my light amidst my darkness and my rescue in times of trouble. So whom shall I fear? He surrounds me with a fortress of protection. So nothing should cause me alarm. I am pleading with the Eternal for this one thing, my soul’s desire: To live with Him all of my days—in the shadow of His temple, To behold His beauty and ponder His ways in the company of His people. His house is my shelter and secret retreat. It is there I find peace in the midst of storm and turmoil. Safety sits with me in the hiding place of God. He will set me on a rock, high above the fray. God lifts me high above those with thoughts of death and deceit that call for my life. I will enter His presence, offering sacrifices and praise. In His house, I am overcome with joy As I sing, yes, and play music for the Eternal alone.I cannot shout any louder. Eternal One—hear my cry and respond with Your grace. The prodding of my heart leads me to chase after You. I am seeking You, Eternal One—don’t retreat from me.I will move past my enemies with this one, sure hope: that with my own eyes, I will see the goodness of the Eternal in the land of the living. Please answer me: Don’t give up. Wait for the Eternal in expectation, and be strong. Again, wait for the Eternal.

Let's pray. Lord, thank you for your word thank you for this time of year where not only do we just automatically jump into celebrations and really thinking about the blessings and gratitude for the things in our life, but we also think about the things that we're missing - the thing that we're waiting for, the things that haven't quite happened in the way that we think they should. All embodied in this Advent time waiting for the coming Christ. Lord, as we reflect on the people of Israel wandering, wondering and waiting, it actually makes that feeling of gratitude (of celebration )even deeper. Even more meaningful because we know that you came, that you embodied our experiences. And while here on Earth, perform miracles, gain followers and sacrifice yourself for our sake - to show us the way. And yet, as great as that is, we still feel unsatisfied. And yet we still wait, but we know that you've got our back. Whom shall we fear when you are for us and that you are light amidst our darkness and our rescue in times of trouble? In your name, amen.
