Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Tuesday, November 26. Today's reading is from Jeremiah 23, 5 through 6.

Kelly Day   0:21
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.

Things weren't going so well. Back in Jeremiah's day, my bible said it was a time of storm and stress - the doom of entire nations, including Judah were being sealed. Yet, the LORD has this good news to share. God himself was raising up a perfect King in a branch from David, who reigns wisely and is justand right. I think this would be welcome news and a source of hope. No one understood who this king would be and that his throne wouldn't look much like his ancestor, King David - but they believed God's word to be true.

Kelly Day  1:26

This messianic passage is set about 600 years before Christ, so the people would wait with anticipation for their righteous savior. We are blessed to know this future King's name and reap the rewards of his great sacrifice for us. Jesus Christ still sits on his heavenly throne and reigns over the world today. This should bring us great comfort in the midst of our own current storms and stress. We get to live in the good news of Jesus Christ, our Savior each and every day.

Kelly Day  2:03

Dear Lord our God, you are our creator, father and king. Forgive us when we forget who reigns on high. I thank you for sending your son - the branch of David - into the world, not only as our Savior but as an example of wise, just and right living in this land. Please guide our hearts and minds to you, to find true peace, comfort and joy. Now and always, amen.
