Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. It's Wednesday, October 30. My name is Kyle Olson and I serve here as the Technical Director. It's the season of green and growing things, because God is on a mission to keep us growing up, in and out. It's also the season of Fall, changing colors and Hearts Ablaze here at Elmhurst CRC.

Today's reading is from Psalm 119, which is one of the longest Psalms. In fact, I think it is the longest Psalm in the Bible! I'll be focusing on verse 105, so I'm going to read a little bit before and after that, so you can get a sense of the context. Verse 105 reads, "Your word is a lamp for my steps. It lights the path before me." I'll read from verses 97 through 112 which are two of the many sections of this psalm.
Kyle Olson 1:08
Oh, how I love Your law! I fix my mind on it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies because they are always with me. I have more discernment than all my teachers because I study and meditate on your testimonies. I comprehend more than those who are my elders because I have kept your precepts. I have kept my feet from walking the paths of evil so that I may live according to your word. I have not neglected your lessons, for you, God, have been my teacher. Your words are sweet to my taste! Yes, they are sweeter than honey in my mouth! I gain understanding from your instructions; that’s why I hate every deceitful path. Your word is a lamp for my steps; it lights the path before me. I have taken an oath and confirmed it:I pledge to do what you say is right and just. I have suffered terribly, O Eternal One; give me the life you promised. Please accept the words I offer willingly, O Eternal One, and instruct me in the ways of your justice. My soul is continually in danger, but I do not forget your teachings. The wicked have laid a trap for me, but I have not drifted away from your instructions. Your decrees are forever mine, for they bring joy to my life. I have committed myself to do what you require forever and ever, to the very end.

Let's Pray. Lord, thank you for your word. Thank you for your light, thank you for your grace and your mercy. Help us to keep faithful study, to keep that word in our hearts. Help your word spill out of uswith our interactions, with what we say, with how we are and how we move around this world so that your word is the light. We confess Lord, that we may not be as confident as this Psalmist says in our reading, keeping and study of the Word. But Lord, we can be confident in your promises and in your grace and in your mercy as we forever follow you.In your name, Amen.
