Welcome to ECRC's daily dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, October 14. This is Jeff Klein with your weekly reminder to take your faith and move it Beyond Sunday. My younger son, Joseph, has just concluded his college baseball career. It was his number one sport throughout his life and he spent countless hours working on baseball, learning to hit, throw, and all the different things that go with baseball. He's amazing at the sport. Now, he's decided that he's going to now take up golf. Well, of course, that's another whole sport with a whole new set of swings and and things to learn. And so when we were out golfing the other night, he started having a fit! He said, "I stink at golf. I'm terrible!" I explained to Joe, "Well, just like baseball, most people have to swing a golf club 1000s of times to get it down. And even then, sometimes the ball heads for the trees."

For me, this translates into living our lives on God's mission. So many people in the church don't play at all. They don't even get involved, because they feel like they can't hit the shot - like they're gonna mess it up, and they don't have the skills. But being part of Jesus' mission requires some skill honing too. Each one of us needs to swing the club lots of times and actually step out in faith. Is there really any other way to learn a skill other than to practice? Jesus told us to go and make disciples. What can you do this week to begin developing your missional swing?

Jeffrey Klein 1:38

Let's pray. Lord, give us the fortitude, the passion, the discipline to get out and practice our missional lives - our missional living in the world this week. In your name we pray, amen.
