Good morning friends and welcome to Elmhurst CRC's Daily Dose of the Word of God. This is Gregg DeMey, Lead Pastor at the church, and it's Thursday, October 10. It is still the season of green and growing things, because God is on a mission to keep us growing up, in and out. Today's reading is from the book of Hebrews chapter 13, verses 20 and 21.

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Seven years ago, I was chosen by DuPage County to serve on a grand jury. That service meant traveling to the county courthouse in Wheaton each and every Tuesday for 13 consecutive weeks. We would typically hear the details of 30 to 40 cases each of those Tuesdays and were asked to apply the six basic questions of criminal investigation: who, what, where, why, when and how did the alleged crime occur? Then, did the evidence in response to those questions merit an indictment? Now in this Sunday sermon, I'm planning to ask these same six questions about worship. One of the behaviors God's word instructs us to practice and grow into: Where do we worship according to the Bible? When should we worship? Who do we worship? Why do we worship? What do we do in worship? And lastly, how do we worship according to the Scriptures?

I'm excited to explore and answer these questions altogether. Hebrews 13, (our passage for today) makes it clear that the who of worship is God (of course). Father, Son and Holy Spirit with the spotlight being on Jesus - that great shepherd of the sheep who shed his blood to keep and fulfill God's eternal promise or covenant, and who continues to work in us through his Holy Spirit, to whom be the glory forever and ever.

Let's pray. God, this coming Sunday in churches all over the world and in our little congregation here in Elmhurst, shine a spotlight on the work and worthiness of your son. We want to see him more clearly and love him more dearly. In his name we pray, amen.
