Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Friday, January 7, and Sundays comin'! This is Kara Hackert. And today, I'll be reading from Luke three, verses 21 through 23. The baptism and genealogy of Jesus. "When all the people were baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven. You are my Son, whom I love, with you, I am well pleased. Now Jesus himself was about 30 years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought of Joseph, the son of Heli. God, Son, Holy Spirit."

 Kara Hackert  01:01

We see all three in the scripture passage. Heaven was opened, and God the Father sent His Holy Spirit down on his Son. And what did God say? You are my Son, whom I love with you; I am well pleased. Jesus received these gifts of the Spirit and love from his Father. We, too, can learn from Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit. That same Holy Spirit who came upon Jesus is with us and in us. God's Holy Spirit speaks to us and gives us direction if we listen. How blessed are we that our Heavenly Father loves us also and gives us the gifts of His Son and Spirit?

 Kara Hackert  01:44

Let's pray. Dear God, thank you for the gifts of your Son and Spirit. Thank you for Jesus and the ways he showed us how to receive your spirit. Thank you for loving us. Help us to share your love with others. Amen.
