Welcome to Elmhurst CRC’s Daily Dose of the Word of God. It’s Tuesday, June 25, it’s the season of green and growing things, our spiritual lives included! This is Billy Heschl reading for Rachel Klooster, from Isaiah 61:

Rachel Klooster  0:25

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me     to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them, though they have been deserted for many generations. You will be called priests of the Lord,     ministers of our God. You will feed on the treasures of the nations and boast in their riches.

Rachel Klooster 1:11

This coming Sunday is our church’s 5th Sunday Serve day. This means we go out into our community and serve our neighbors. As it says in Isaiah, we will be priests of the Lord and ministers of our God. We are told to bring good news out into the world. Consider signing up to work this Sunday with some church friends. If you are on vacation this Sunday, I would encourage you to see where you can serve those around you, right where you are. The first part of these verses (the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me) is very encouraging to us. The Holy Spirit is here to help give us the motivation to serve others. And this motivation is from the SOVEREIGN LORD - what power is given to us! What a privilege that we have a direct line to God!

Rachel Klooster  1:58

Let's pray. God our Father, give us the motivation and energy to serve others in the way you are instructing us to do. Thank you for sending your spirit to us so that we may serve in your power and strength. keep our eyes open for where we can reach out to hurting people. In Jesus name, Amen.
