Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose in the Word of God; this is Jeff Klein. It's Monday, September 25 and this is your weekly encouragement to move your faith Beyond Sunday.

Jeff Klein 0:17

After countless church meals, I've come to believe life's a lot like a potluck. Doesn't it seem like the same people always bring a main dish? And the same ones always bring sides and dessert? Why don't some people bring anything at all? Does everyone actually want to contribute? But just some can't? Or are some people I hate to say it, just stingy? Have we got so used to who brings what that no one feels the need to do anything different? What if the main dish people stopped bringing them (maybe they should)? Shouldn't those who don't bring anything contribute something? After all, nothing in life is free. Or should it be, if the main dish people can bring more, shouldn't they? Especially if there are people who legitimately can't. But who decides what's legitimate or not for that matter? Couldn't the side dish and dessert people do more? Aren't they holding back? Or is it okay that they've at least made something?

Jeff Klein 1:13

What do you bring to the potluck? Are you willing to bring as much as you can? Paul says this to the Thessalonians: "We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love and your endurance inspired by the hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. "Do you want to be known for your work produced by faith and your labor prompted by love or for being the one that brings nothing to the potluck?
