Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Wednesday, September 20 and Sunday's coming. This week we will be climbing the ladder of faith with an emphasis on the letter I, which signifies God's intentions. I'll be reading from The Voice translation of John 10, verses 7 through 10. If you heard yesterday's devotional (with verses 1 through 6) Jesus just told a little parable, using a shepherd and sheep and hearing the shepherds voice.

So he explained further. "I tell you the truth: I am the gate of the sheep. All who approached the sheep before me came as thieves and robbers, and the sheep did not listen to their voices. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be liberated, will go in and go out, and will find pastures. The thief approaches with malicious intent, looking to steal, slaughter, and destroy; I came to give life with joy and abundance.

Let's pray. Lord, thank you for your word. Thank you that your word contains truth. Thank you for your Son, Jesus, coming down to earth, experiencing life as we do and then teaching us how to walk through that life with a connection to our Father in heaven, and the Holy Spirit to help us. Thank you that Jesus allows us to enter through him and be liberated, to be a part of salvation, to be a part of Kingdom building. That you've promised a life with joy and abundance. It's hard to hear sometimes, Lord, because we focus on the different threats, weaknesses, pain and suffering that we go through from day to day. So it is good to know that you are for us and not against us and you promise great things ahead. And finally, thank you for your grace and mercy. In your name, Amen.
