Rachel Kloster, as read by William Charles Heschl
Rachel Kloster 0:09
Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's September 21st, I'm Billy Heschl and I'll be reading for Rachel Kloster - and Sundays coming! This week we'll be climbing the ladder of faith with an emphasis on the letter I this week, which signifies God's intentions. Today's reading is going to be from 1 John 4, verses 9 through 10.
Rachel Kloster 0:33
God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love - not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Earlier in this series we were reminded that we are a fallen people and we live in a fallen world. And when life is frustrating we can wonder if God really loves us. I was recently listening to a Tim Keller podcast in which he said, “We turned away from God and everything stopped working.”
Rachel Kloster 1:10
We turned away from God, and everything stopped working.
Rachel Kloster 1:16
How often we feel that things are not working! And this can be very frustrating! But this verse offers us some hope. God loves us so much and his intentions towards us are good, so he provided a way back to him. Of course we know this doesn’t end all of our frustrations, but it does give us some perspective and reminds us that these are only “momentary troubles.”
Rachel Kloster 1:43
Lets Pray. Thank you, Lord, for loving us when we are in the middle of frustrating times. Help us to have an eternal perspective. Give us strength and wisdom as we remember that Jesus was sent to both give us eternal life and to help us through our struggles. Amen.
