Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, September 18 and this is Jeff Klein with another encouragement to take your faith and live it beyond Sunday.

Jeff Klein  0:21

Not too long ago I couldn't believe the huge laughter coming from my kitchen table where my mother-in-law and the grandkids were playing a game. Grandma (or Gram, as they call her) flat-out refused to play by the rules. What was going on? Well, they were playing the game of life. The one where you drive the little car, choose a career, get married and collect little blue and pink pink children and eventually retire a millionare or poor? Well apparently in this new version of the game, you can sue other players! This (of course) gains you more money and helps you win. But, Gram wouldn't sue. After landing on one of those spots, she firmly announced, "I do not believe in suing. I choose to pass." The kids went nuts. They thought she was nuts and they laughed and laughed.

Jeff Klein  1:05

I loved that Gram demonstrated that living by principles applies not only in real life, but even in the board game of life. How many of us hold our principles so dearly? What are yours? God is big on obedience to his principles. When Joshua is raised up to be the leader of Israel - after Moses dies - God gives him instructions. The leading instruction is found in Joshua 1, verses 7 through 9. "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you'll be successful in everything you do. Study this book of instruction continually; meditate on it day and night, so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command, be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the lord your God is with you, wherever you go."

Jeff Klein  2:01

God points Joshua to his Word to find the principles that he should live by; he tells him not to deviate to the left or to the right. Gram has this and gets this. She wouldn't deviate, even in the game of life. If you want your faith to move beyond Sundays, then this is good advice and a good example: obey, don't deviate. Follow God's instructions in all of life. The Bible assures that if you do, your life will shine like the stars will give off a pleasing aroma and will give witness to the Jesus you follow.
