Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose in the Word of God. It's Monday, May 29. This is Jeff Klein, one of the pastors here at the church. Today and for the next couple of months, we are going to change it up a bit on the Daily Dose devotions. During the month of June and July, we will be taking a deep dive into Romans chapter 8 during our Sunday morning worship times. You heard me right, ONE chapter in the Bible; a super rich and deep chapter written by the Apostle Paul.

Why would we do this for two months? Because we want it to really sink in. Not just skim over and summarize the passage, but actually dig into it and see what God would have for us, what he would say to us through this one chapter. Let's see if we can get the concepts in Romans 8 to get through to us, to alter how we live, to give us new words and thoughts about what it means to follow Jesus.

Our hope? That a number of us will even try to memorize the chapter and make it a passage that we have hidden in our hearts. So, we will be reading from Romans 8, each day on the Daily Dose. Our hope is that as you listen and read it for yourself (and hear it preached on Sundays), it will have a deep impact on your walk with Jesus and your relationship to the Holy Spirit. Maybe you'll even begin to memorize it. This coming Sunday, we'll begin by looking at Romans 8, verses 1 through 4. I'm going to read these four verses right now.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life giving spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The Law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do; he sent his own son in a body (like the bodies we sinners have), and in that body God declared an end to sin's control over us by giving his son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirements of the law will be fully satisfied for us who no longer follow our sinful nature, but instead follow the spirit.

I hope you'll enjoy this journey deep into Romans eight for June, July.
