Kelly Day  0:07

Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Monday, May 15, and this is Kelly Day, Coffee Break Bible Study Director. This week, we're journeying with Jesus from the tomb, stumbling along with Mary and Mary, Matthew 28, 9 through 10.

Kelly Day  0:26

Suddenly, Jesus met them, "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet, and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee."

Kelly Day 0:42

So who did Jesus suddenly meet? Matthew tells us this was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary. They had gone to the tomb and Jesus was not there - but an angel was. The angel told them that Jesus had risen. They were on their way to pass word to the disciples, and Jesus suddenly appears.

Kelly Day  1:04

I love watching videos of men and women who serve our country return home to surprise their loved ones. Unsuspecting kids, wives, parents, whomever, are usually overcome with joy and emotion when they see their loved one return. They released willingly (or unwillingly) their family member off to service, not always knowing if they'll return. The woman here thought they'd never see Jesus again - then suddenly, there he is right beside them. Their natural reaction was to drop down to their knees, clasp his feet and worship him. What a beautiful picture. Not only is he a loved one of theirs, but they know he's their Lord and Messiah.

Kelly Day  1:57

Here they go to Jesus' feet. I feel like there's been a lot of passages revolving around feet that I've read recently. The sinful woman who wiped Jesus feet with her tears and hair. Jesus (just a few days prior), washing his disciples feet. And the woman here worshipping at Jesus' feet. I believe this was a sign of servanthood and acknowledgement of who Jesus was. How about us? Do I get just as excited to encounter Jesus in my life? What is my worship look like? Am I willing to be his servant in worship as I present my body as a daily living sacrifice?

Kelly Day  2:38

Let's pray. Dear Lord our father in heaven, thank you for sending your son to earth to live, die and rise again as a sacrifice for us. I pray that we may worship you each day as humbled servants. I ask that you give us eyes to see you as we stumble through our days here on Earth. In Christ's name, Amen.
