Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the word of God. It's Thursday, March 9, and this is Gregg DeMey, Lead Pastor at ECRC. This week we're journeying with Jesus towards the cross, stumbling along with a woman at the well from John chapter 4. Today's reading will linger on Psalm 95, verses 6 and 7.

The Bible says: Come let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

Many days (most days in fact), we can stumble along forgetting whose presence we're in. We can easily forget the tenderness and love of a spouse, child or a friend. We can easily forget the gratitude we have for our work, school or retirement years. We can even forget to notice the God in whose presence we live, move and find our being; we are such quirky and forgetful human beings. In John 4, there's a Samaritan woman who began a face-to-face conversation with Jesus, with little knowing that it was he the Messiah - the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, the living water that she was seeking - he was right there and she didn't know it. How often do we have a day (or a morning) like that? A day not recognizing the presence and the provision of the very one we are seeking, who is always here, nearer than our hands and feet. Psalm 95 provides a healthy spiritual reminder for me in the morning. It helps start the day in the right posture.

Gregg DeMey  1:42

Come, let us worship and bow down. If you're willing and able, I invite you to kneel today before God. Go ahead, get on your knees, or maybe lie flat on the ground. God is awesome, and in this posture, it reminds us that we're human, mortal and small. In fact, Psalm 95 reminds us that we are merely sheep. The people of God's pasture, (or as the Psalm says) the flock under his care. Today, you don't have to be brilliant, clever or have all the right answers. You just need to receive what the Good Shepherd will provide for you, his sheep. Oh God, we do worship and bow down before you in your goodness and gracious provision. Give us what we stand in need of today. For Jesus sake, who is our living water and our daily bread, Amen.
