Rebekah Wilson 0:07

Welcome to Elmhurst CRC’s daily dose of the Word of God. Today is Tuesday, March 7th and this is Rebekah Wilson. This week we’re journeying with Jesus toward the cross, stumbling along with the woman at the well in John 4: 21-26.

Rebekah Wilson  0:25

“Jesus replied, ‘Believe me, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father here or in Jerusalem. You Samaritans know so little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. But the time is coming and is already here when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for anyone who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.’   The woman said, ‘I know the Messiah will come- the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.’ Then Jesus told her, ‘I am the Messiah!’”

Rebekah Wilson 1:12

Man, to be a fly on the well to see this woman’s face when Jesus drops the truth bomb that he’s the Messiah, standing right in front of her. A woman so disgraced, she can’t even face her community. A woman so confused in her faith, she doesn’t even know what or who she really worships. But Jesus comes to her anyway and unlike Nicodemus, it doesn’t take much convincing for this woman to be the herald of good news to her Samaritan village. “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.” And the people of the town came out and made their way toward Jesus.

Rebekah Wilson  1:56

What unlikely person in your life needs to be invited to God’s Kingdom? Who can you be a herald for, to announce the Good News of Jesus? I think we mistakenly think that we need to argue and convince everyone into the Kingdom. But that’s not what Jesus said. “ALL authority” has already been given to Him. Therefore, we can go out and make disciples, instruct them in obedience, baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is already ruling on HIs throne. He has already defeated death. We just need to tell people of the victory that is already a reality.

Rebekah Wilson 2:41

Let’s pray. Jesus, we praise you for announcing your Kingdom and inviting all nations to come and see. We thank you that salvation isn’t just for the Jews, that you came as a light to all nations! Thank you for coming to us as we are. This woman at the well wasn’t dressed in her Sunday best. She hadn’t even repented of her sins, and yet, you came to her and revealed your identity to her and you loved her. You love us with an everlasting love and you draw near with unfailing kindness. All praise and glory and honor are yours, Jesus. Amen
