Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the word of God. It's Monday, October 31, and Sunday's coming. This is Kara Heckert, and today I'll be reading from John 1, verses 1 through 5.

Kara Hackert  0:19

The Word became flesh. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. And the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him, all things were made. Without him, nothing was made, that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Kara Hackert  0:45

I love these verses. They read like a beautiful piece of poetry. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made. Without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. But who is this Word that was with God in the beginning? It's Jesus.

Kara Hackert  1:18

Jesus, who reveals to us what God is like. Jesus was always existed. He was with God in the beginning when God created heaven and earth. Through him, all things were made. This passage says that he is the life and light of all mankind. Jesus is the creator of our lives. He's also the giver of eternal life. He came to redeem and save us. He is the light who shines the truth, who cuts through the darkness of sin and evil, who shows us the way. You will not be overcome. Whoever follows him will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Kara Hackert  1:59

Let's pray together. Dear Jesus, thank you for your rescue plan. Thank you for forgiving us. Thank you for dying and rising again to save us. Thank you for the assurance of salvation and eternal life with you. Please shine your light in our lives, guide us to turn away from our sinful choices, and follow your way. And please help us to share your light and your love with those around us. Amen.
