Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Monday, June 27, and Sundays coming. This is Kara Hackert and today I'll be reading from 1 Corinthians 3 verses 1 through 9.

Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings?  What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

I once read the following devotion from the book Grace for the Moment by Max Lucado. I love the perspective and the mental adjustment or working with God. Listen, as I read.

We are God's workers working together. It's a wonderful day when we stopped working for God and start working with God. For years I thought of God is the boss of a big company. And I was just one of his loyal helpers. He had his office and I had mine. I went out to do his work, and then I reported back. I could call him as much as I wanted. He was always just a phone call or an email away. He encouraged me,  cheered me on and supported me. But he didn't go with me. At least I didn't think he did. And I read in Corinthians, We are workers together with God. Workers with God working together. God and I working together. Wow. We don't just report back to God. We work with God. We don't check in with him and then leave. We check in with him and then follow. We are always in the presence of God. Every moment is sacred.

Let's pray together. Dear God, thank you for wanting to be with us. Thank you that we get to be in your presence always. Thank you that we get to be coworkers with you and your kingdom. Help us to follow your will for our lives and to grow in your word into your love. Amen.
