Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Friday, June 24, and Sunday is coming. This is Gregg DeMey, and I serve as Lead Pastor at ECRC. This Sunday, our worship experience will end with a song called I Will follow, written by Jon Guerra, who went to school right here in Chicago at Moody Bible College. The song has become a favorite in recent years.

Gregg DeMey  0:24

The message this Sunday will be brought by Dr. Lawton Searcy, who is visiting from Hunt Correctional Facility in Louisiana. Dr. Searcy is visiting with our prison ministry team as we explore ways to further serve and share Jesus with prisoners. And he'll be preaching on Luke 5: 17-26, featured earlier this week. So the story of a paralytic man who had friends with a faith so strong, that they tore up a roof in order to lower their friend, directly into Jesus presence. What a great model of discipleship that is a desire, a strong desire to remove all obstacles in order to enter Jesus presence, no matter what. That is exactly what the song I Will Follow is all about. You can click a link in the show notes to listen to it. And here are just a few of the lyrics.

Gregg DeMey  1:17

When the sea is calm, and all is right. When I feel your favor, flood my life. Even in the good, I'll follow you. And when the boat is tossed upon the waves, when I wonder if you'll keep me safe. Even in the storms, I'll follow you. I believe everything that you say you are, I believe that I have seen your unchanging heart. In the good things, and in the hardest part, I believe and I will follow you. When I see the wicked prospering, when I feel I have no voice to sing. Even in the want I'll follow you. When I find myself so far from home, and you lead me somewhere I don't want to go. Even in my death I'll follow you. And when I come to end this race I've run, and I receive the prize that Christ has won. I will be with you in paradise. Friends, this is the kind of radical discipleship and obedience that I aspire to following Jesus, no matter what. Lord, give me the grace.

Gregg DeMey  2:27

Let's pray. Lord, I do believe everything that you say you are, I believe I have seen your unchanging heart, and in the good things, even in the hardest part. I believe and I will follow you. Amen.
