Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God. It's Monday, June 13, and Sundays coming. This is Kara Hackert. And today I'll be reading from Exodus 20:1-3, the 10 Commandments. "And God spoke all these words, I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me." Why do you think God said that we should have no other gods? It's because God is the only God. He is the one true God. The enemy tempts us and tries to turn our head and take our focus off of God, by distracting us with the idols of our time, money, possessions, toys of all shapes and sizes, politics, jobs, fame, and more. Be here God says, You shall have no other gods before me. He started the 10 Commandments by condemning idolatry, worshiping reverence and devotion to things that are not him. He's telling us not to put these things in front of our love for Him. We are to love him with all of our heart, our soul in our mind. We are to love Him fully. We're here to worship Him and Him alone. And just as he brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, he can rescue us from being slaves to whatever we idolize, and put ahead of him, heal for forgive us, and help us put Him first. If only we ask. This is a choice that we make the choice to love Him fully. What good news, what freedom. He's the one true God. There is no other God. Everything else is a lie that we can turn from. He is our Father who loves us unconditionally. We get to love him. We get to worship and praise Him, the Almighty King of Kings.

Let's pray together. Oh, dear God, you are the real God. The One True God. Help us to remember that and believe that. Thank you for the freedom and peace, that that knowledge and certainty brings. Help us not to be turned or led astray by other things, but to stay faithful and devoted to you.
