Welcome to Elmhurst CRC's daily dose of the Word of God hits Friday, June 17 and Sundays coming! This is Gregg DeMey, I serve as Lead Pastor at ECRC, and I wanted to introduce you to a song called "Be Still and Know" that will be included at the conclusion of Sunday's worship service.

The song was written just in the past year by composers Alan Frow and Sam Cox. When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 22, the composers decided to add and intermingle a Ukrainian version of the text, which is based on Psalm 46, God is our refuge and our strength. At ECRC on Sunday, the song will be heard as the composers imagined and intended it, with English and Ukrainian being sung side by side. Thanks to Vitaly Golubok, Ukrainian American member of our congregation, for connecting us with a singer named Katerina, who will be singing the Ukrainian part. You can click on the link in the show notes to hear and see it on YouTube in advance. It's truly a beautiful, amazing song. Our choir was blessed by this very video as our opening devotions at a rehearsal just a few weeks ago. As I mentioned, the song is based on Psalm 46. A psalm that references waters, roaring mountains, quaking nations and uproar, kingdoms falling, and then Psalm 46:11 says this, Be still and know that I am God. Be still and know that I am God. In the midst of all the trouble and chaos that this world can throw at us. God's word says, Be still and know that I am God. In opposition to all the lesser sources of comfort, or distraction or medication that we turn to God says, be still and know that I am God.

Let's pray. I'm going to repeat this phrase in a prayer of subtraction. You'll understand. Lord, we hear you say today. Be still and know that I am God. Be still and know that I am. Be still and know. Be still. And today, Lord, help us simply to be with you.
